Tony Loveday: As well as being the “staff partner” and managing the office housekeeping (someone has to do it), Tony is a very experienced engineer. He gained rare experience in large projects as part of the design team, and subsequently Resident Engineer, for the very large Cressbrook Dam project for Toowoomba City Council in the early 1980’s. He has been the partner responsible for special projects in the company since 1988.
Tony’s main interest is in hydrology and hydraulics (particularly flood studies, channels and overland flow), and in water hammer analysis. However, since the opportunity to design large dams is relatively rare, Tony’s main project focus is usually on overland flow, industrial and commercial development.
Tony says that being able to go home for lunch and enjoy a cup of tea under the trees in the backyard is perfect for stress relief and is one of the great benefits of regional city living.
David Lord: An ex-Tasmanian (where?) David has spent all of his working life in Local Government Engineering. He has extensive experience in all aspects of municipal and infrastructure engineering and is very well known in Local Government circles in Queensland.
David strongly believes that whole of life planning is an essential part of responsible and effective Local Government engineering solutions.
David has a special interest in sewage and water treatment, water reticulation, asset management, flood plain issues and roads.
With David’s guidance, Farr Evrat has developed an enviable reputation as skilled and practical infrastructure designers and advisers to both Local and State Governments.
Mark Roggenkamp: Mark has 20 years experience in Building Services engineering. His particular expertise is electrical and related services, and air conditioning and ventilation. He is also the office guru on the finer points of the BCA, particularly with respect to fire services and access and egress requirements.
As yet unmarried, Mark is unencumbered by the weekend family duties that come with a wife and children. Guilt free he is able to happily spend his weekends on the golf course.
Ray Moore: Ray has spent a large part of his working life as an Engineer and Town Planner in Local Government. He was the Toowoomba City Engineer from 1981 to 1991.
Nominally semi-retired, Ray is very active in our company as Principal Town Planner.
He is well known and respected, both in Local Government and State Government circles. The combination of engineering and town planning skills that Ray possesses is rare, and he is constantly in demand for his practical and knowledgeable advice.
Ken Murphy: Ken is our counter of beans and keeper of the first aid kit (officially the company Business Manager and Safety Officer).
Ken came to us from a management position in a subsidiary of Defiance Milling. An insomniac, Ken finds enough hours in the day to manage the administration and business interests of a couple of sidelines, as well as those of our company. As the Regional Chair, and a Director of Commerce Queensland, Ken has a very public face and is well known in the business community. In his spare time, Ken is a JP (Qual) and used to enjoy being in the thick of things as a baseball umpire.
Bill Smith: Arriving in Australia in 1976 from the UK, Bill spent some 14 years with the Hydroelectric Corporation in Tasmania. He carried out civil and structural drafting for many of the major structures designed by the HEC at that time.
Chasing the sunshine for which Queensland is famous, Bill moved to Queensland in 1993 and joined our company in 1996.
Bill has experience in a variety of engineering disciplines from structures, to building services, to earthworks. Judging by the stories at our occasional Friday afternoon “happy hour”, Bill seems to spend many of his weekends carting his daughter’s horse around (or trying to catch it).
Graham Mayes: Graham is our Senior Structural Draftsman and has amassed over 40 years experience in drafting (in general) and building projects (in particular). Graham’s easygoing nature adds a calmness to the office, but also camouflages a tenacious perfectionist who takes great pride in his projects.
Graham and his wife are talented potters, although Graham says he prefers the decoration phase more than the actual throwing these days.
Dean Griffin: A very experienced drafter, Dean is currently expanding his technical skills and knowledge through part-time study at the University of Southern Queensland. In recent years his rold has expanded from pure drafting to mapping and GIS and asset management.
He is very interested in computers and computer drafting and is a frequent contributor to CAD drafting newsgroups on the Internet.
Dean likes to tweak his drafting software, and is always on the lookout for utilities that will increase productivity and drawing output.
